FOLLOWING OUR SPIRIT WANDERLUST We continue our #ACUSTRAVELS journey through one of the most beautiful cities in Andalusia , Granada. This city perfectly blends Arab, Gypsy, and Spanish cultures. Granada is the most iconic jewel of Spain's historical and artistic heritage, the former Nasrid capital. Today, we delve a little deeper to discover it with all five senses and share some ACUS secrets with you.
THE ALHAMBRA
Whether you're abroad or in Spain, you must visit the Alhambra . This monumental medieval palace is the greatest example of Muslim military architecture in the Western world. The citadel boasts exquisite courtyards with pools, luxurious fountains, and convents, along with a network of palaces with Andalusian -style interior decoration, built by various rulers. All of this makes it the most visited monument in Spain.
If you're going to visit the Alhambra, I recommend getting your tickets well in advance; you can get your tickets here.
THE SAN NICOLÁS VIEWPOINT
In the heart of the Albaicín, you can discover the special charm of the San Nicolás viewpoint . You can reach it on foot, although keep in mind that the access is via some fairly steep streets, or you can also get there by bus number 31. I recommend watching the sunset from this viewpoint—it's a spectacular sight! You'll be able to see the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada mountains.
THE ALBAICÍN NEIGHBORHOOD
Retaining all the magic of its Arab heritage, you must delve into the Albaicín neighborhood, declared a World Heritage Site in 1984. Wander its streets and relive the history of Nasrid Granada, witnessing how the ancient culture has fused with the new. In this neighborhood, you'll find numerous tapas bars and tea rooms where you can sample a variety of Arabic teas.
The main tapas areas in Granada are; Bibrambla Square and the Cathedral, Elvira Street, Navas Street and Plaza Nueva and the Paseo de los Tristes, the Realejo and the Campo del Príncipe, San Matías or Alhamar.
THE SACROMONTE NEIGHBORHOOD
In the eastern part of Granada, bordering the Albaicín district , lies the Sacromonte neighborhood, where most of the inhabitants are Roma. According to local history, they arrived from India after wandering through Africa and Europe, and decided to settle in the famous caves of this area.
This neighborhood was portrayed by the poet Federico García Lorca in his book “Romancero Gitano” .
Currently, 11 caves are preserved in their original state, open to the public, where the history and life of their residents and how this incredible settlement was formed are recounted.
Granada Cathedral
Another must-see is Granada Cathedral , one of the masterpieces of the Spanish Renaissance, with an interesting collection of works by Alonso Cano , a painter, sculptor, and architect from Granada. It is located at Calle Gran Vía de Colón 5.
SIERRA NEVADA
Granada is also a pilgrimage site for ski lovers, as the Sierra Nevada ski resort is located just half an hour from the city, making it the ideal place for snow lovers.
ARABIAN BATHS
To relax during your stay in Granada, you'll find the Hammam. Traditional "Arab Baths ," ideal for well-being and body care. With several water rooms and a relaxation area, you can request one of the special treatments offered by the Arab baths, such as massages, aromatherapy, or therapeutic massage. Experience an authentic Arab tradition at [location missing]. Hammam Granada.
FLAMENCO
To put the finishing touch, or rather the dancing shoes, on this trip, I recommend that you visit a real flamenco tablao. Take advantage of the gastronomic offer of seeing a live show that will give you goosebumps while you taste the local cuisine of Granada at Cuevas Los Tarantos .
#ACUSINSPIRE
There are plenty of reasons why the city of Granada is a true gem, apart from being the birthplace and source of inspiration for our beloved Elena Doblas , designer and CEO of ACUS, who captures colors, textures and shapes inspired by her homeland and her travels.
