THE NORTHERN LIGHTS: THE JEWEL OF ICELAND

Our Acus jewels travel all the way to Iceland, to capture the natural scenery that Iceland offers us.

Iceland is one of the youngest islands belonging to the European continent. It was formed approximately 20 million years ago following a series of simultaneous underwater volcanic eruptions on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

The oldest rock specimen dates back 16 million years.

Although it is believed that its first inhabitants were monks who arrived from Ireland, there is no archaeological certainty about this. However, thanks to the Landnámabok, or Book of Settlement, it is recounted that Iceland was discovered by Naddoddr, a Viking from the Faroe Islands.

Regardless of the history of its first inhabitants, there's no doubt that this young island embodies the full force of nature. Its beautiful volcanoes, lava fields, geysers, and hot springs make it a favorite destination for nature lovers. Besides possessing all these natural riches, it boasts the most sought-after and sought-after jewel: the Northern Lights.

Iceland is located at latitude 64º north and thanks to this location it is the perfect place to spot the Northern Lights.

A good time to appreciate this jewel of nature is between September and April, provided the weather meets a number of conditions.

The Northern Lights are the visual result of solar particles entering the Earth's magnetic field in the atmosphere and becoming ionized. They vary in color, creating a delicate and colorful dance in nature's sky. They can be observed in shades of violet, red, pink, orange, and blue.

Our Acus jewelry pieces travel all the way to Iceland, capturing the natural landscapes that Iceland offers us. Join me once again to follow the trail of our traveling earrings.
