The most famous city in the Netherlands is Amsterdam, a city to get lost in and be amazed by its streets; it's a city to be experienced. What will surprise you most about this city is (among other things) its architecture, composed of long, narrow buildings. The buildings are so narrow that they even boast the narrowest house in the world—yes, you read that right, it's only 1 meter deep, and you can visit it at Singel Street 7, near Central Station.
Another unique feature of Amsterdam's homes is the absence of curtains, as it's often cloudy and residents prefer to enjoy the limited sunshine. Another surprising aspect of this city is the presence of houseboats along the canals; most of the boats you'll see are actually homes. It's estimated that there are approximately 2,500 houseboats spread across 75 kilometers of canals.
If you decide to travel to Amsterdam, you must try their traditional pea soup, a real treat, especially on a cold day. The Dutch are very friendly people, so if you need help, don't hesitate to ask them anything. By the way, if you need directions to a specific street and they tell you it's about 10 minutes away, for example, they mean 10 minutes by bicycle, not on foot 🙂
