This is one of the most historical trends we can find, since in ancient times the clothing of the Greeks consisted of pleated tunics. Women and men dressed alike; they didn't use clothing as a means of identification, but rather for protection. Therefore, as time went on, they only innovated in fabrics and manufacturing techniques, so clothing was always light, comfortable, and allowed for freedom of movement.
With a deep interest in classical Greek style, Mariano Fortuny created the Delphos tunic in the 19th century . A tunic of Hellenistic essence, crafted from silk with minute pleats. Fortuny created this piece by wetting and hand-twisting the fabric; today, this garment is a true fashion icon.
Pleats have not only conquered the world of fashion, they have also made their way into architecture, as seen in the Reggio Emilia train station in Italy, designed by the famous architect Santiago Calatrava, or the Aqua Tower skyscraper located in Chicago, created by the architect Jeanne Gang .
As a result of this link between fashion and architecture, we find the Greek architect Viktoria Lytra, who has created a series of images that explore the relationship and interaction of fashion with architecture.

As a preview of what was to come, the haute couture house DIOR I presented it in Shanghai in 2018 Haute Couture Collection . A collection comprised of 12 looks, featuring monochromatic tones, predominantly red, a color linked to Asian culture. A color suitable for any occasion.
Creative director Maria Grazia created simple, elegant shapes with large, loose, and flowing pleats, setting the trend for pleats.
VALENTINO SPRING/SUMMER 2020 FASHION SHOW
Balenciaga also incorporated in its latest Resort pleated garments with a strong minimalist character.
We also saw pleats in the Spring/Summer 2020 ready-to-wear collections. Valentino, loaded with dresses with WOW effects! Original and creative dresses, which revived very basic pieces like the shirt dress, the pencil skirt, and Bermuda shorts, but elevated them to their highest haute couture splendor. Colors like white, pistachio green, and fluorescent orange created a cheerful movement on the stage, along with bold volumes, standing out in the fashion carousel created by Valentino . A simple yet cheerful, vibrant, and poetic collection, ideal for parties.

Olivier Rousteing, Creative Director of Balmain , embraced rock 'n' roll and 80s power for his SS20 collection this summer. The collection featured black and white as the predominant colors, but also included designs in yellow and black, purple, green, orange, and Klein blue, combined with geometric prints, accessories, and embellishments. It all culminated in a sophisticated and vibrant runway show of trends. We saw dresses with countless pleats, sequins, and lots and lots of sparkle—perfect for parties.
