SAKURA. La novia del cerezo en flor

SAKURA - The spring of the cherry blossoms

THE BRIDE IN BLOOM

Spring arrives, bringing with it the favorite season for celebrating a grand outdoor wedding. This is probably because in spring, beauty shines everywhere, love is in the air, and, one of the main reasons, gardens and estates reach their peak, overflowing with flowers, colors, and joy.

Flowers have always played an important role in every love story. Take, for example, the rose, the star of stories like Beauty and the Beast and American Beauty, or the famous yellow daffodils from Big Fish. In this post, we wanted to pay homage to flowers that symbolize both spring and the beginning of first love: cherry blossoms.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CHERRY TREES IN ASIA

Moreover, in Asian culture, this tree, which blooms only in early spring, is a symbol of innocence, beauty, and rebirth. Its flower is closely associated with love, commitment, and femininity.

The importance of the so-called Sakura (cherry blossom) dates back centuries, when the flowering of these trees marked the beginning of spring and, therefore, signaled the ideal time to plant rice. Today, their contemplation has become a whole festival called Hanami, which literally translates as "flower viewing".

The cherry blossom festival is celebrated in major cities in Japan, China, and South Korea. It's a tradition for couples to walk beneath the petals as a sign of their love; there's even a belief that if a couple manages to catch a petal in mid-air, their union will last forever.

A LOVE STORY

It is no coincidence that the cherry blossom, or Sakura (Japan), Beojkkoch (Korea), Yīnghuā (China), is the flower with one of the most beautiful love legends ever told. The story of Sakura and Yohiro is a legend filled with fairies, spells, transformations, and two lovers who merged into a cherry tree so they could always be together. Even today, when it blooms, we can witness the great beauty of their love.

In Spain we also celebrate our own "Spanish Hanami", in the Jerte Valley the cherry blossom festival is celebrated, but in this case the valleys are tinged with white flowers instead of pink.

The origins of this festival date back to the 1970s when the 11 municipalities of the Jerte Valley region organized a celebration. This festival is intended to foster unity and brotherhood among the inhabitants of the Jerte Valley and neighboring regions.

The date chosen for its celebration is the moment when more than 1.5 million cherry trees begin to bloom, thus welcoming spring.

We at Acus have welcomed spring and celebrated the new post-Covid wedding season with this "flower bride" proposal, a bride inspired by these trees, their tradition and their culture, for which we chose our beloved Hali model with white druzy and rose quartz, referencing the two colors that the cherry blossom can take.

The Hali earrings are inspired by the natural world; their elegant design gives this piece a distinctly romantic sensibility , capturing the fluid movement of flowers and leaves thanks to a mix of natural stones carved with great skill.
