UNA BODA CON MÁSCARAS DE CARNAVAL VENECIANO

A WEDDING WITH VENETIAN CARNIVAL MASKS

To celebrate the recent Carnival in one of Italy's most symbolic regions, we're going to show you a wedding with Venetian carnival masks.

Have you ever been to this festival? The streets are flooded with voluminous wigs and ringlets, bright makeup, and colorful Baroque-era dresses. It's like stepping into another world!

This festival has served as inspiration for the photographer. José M Martínez , who has recreated a couple who could easily pass for characters from a gothic novel The Phantom of the Opera .

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THE VENETIAN CARNIVAL?

It is said that its origins may date back to the 12th century, with the aim of fostering contact between the upper and lower classes, among other reasons. Later, the Baroque festival helped to preserve Venice's prestigious image worldwide.

In 1797, Napoleon Bonaparte , during his occupation of Venice, banned the carnival celebrations for fear they would spark conspiracies. The carnivals were gradually reinstated, beginning in 1896 and officially reinstated in 1979.

From ACUS We want to transport you to that era and observe it through its original handcrafted masks 😉
